The Life Nobody Prepared Me For

Hello, fellas.

So, as you know, for those who read my blogs, I started my own company. After I actually got into it, my Instagram feed changed. Now it’s a combination of memes and business things, especially founders’ notes.

And after reading so many of them, I thought, why not write something about it, right?

Something like the struggles of a founder, an Indie Game Dev founder.

First, let me put an Instagram quote, something that we can all relate to :)

Quote

Till we’re school students, everything seems so already figured out.
Wake up, go to school, come home, do your homework, go to play with your friends, eat, sleep, and repeat. So simple.
No stress about money, no stress about your future. You are just living your happiest life without caring about all the adult stuff.

And suddenly, you graduate from school, and you become two things at once.
A college student and an adult. But you are still in your school student mindset. I’ll do my degree, get good marks, get placed in some company, and my life is all set.

But not even one person warns you about the struggles of becoming an adult in the first place.
Suddenly, you start caring about money, you finally see the struggles of your own family, you see the struggles of finding a good paying job.
That is already too much for an 18 to 19 year-old kid.
But then another realisation hits, the college education is apparently not enough to land a good paying job. And it requires certain skills that you may or may not have, and your college won’t even teach you those skills. Because here, all we care about is getting good marks like a good student.

Why is getting good marks directly proportional to being a good student?

In my family, my mother has three degrees, my sister has two, and my father has one, and till now I have none. And you all know that I left BTech CSE, which is considered a very prestigious degree. But do I care? Absolutely not.

My sister is a BTech graduate from NIT and was a scholar. She used to get good marks, she was a topper.

My sister and I went to the same school, and every teacher knew her and they also knew that I am her younger brother. And I was always compared with her, at home and at school.

I was an imperfect student even in school. And I remember once my chemistry teacher told me, “Your sister is so good and polite, why can’t you be like her?“
I was never mad at being compared with my sister, because I knew that she was good at studies and I was not. And honestly, only my sister saw that.

Hence, in my sister’s case, the directly proportional thing applies.

Now let us talk about me. I am proud to say that I am an average student, or maybe even below average. Again, I do not care about it.

But why?

It is because I can do stuff that most people do not even have the guts to do. After all, they’re too scared of failure. But who isn’t? Everyone is scared of failing, but few can actually bear it.

Nowadays, whenever I talk to my sister about my things, she’s always like, “You’re doing something that most people can’t and won’t. If I were in your shoes, I would’ve given up. I would’ve chosen the easier and more generic path that most people follow. So you should be proud of yourself.“

Now, let us jump back to figuring things out during college.

Well, in my 1st year of college, I figured out that a degree is useless (do not get inspired by me), while I was doing BTech. In our 2nd semester, we had a subject called workshop, where we had to cut iron bars using handsaws, and after that we had to soften the edges and then join two pieces.
The logic behind it? NONE.

That’s when I decided that I’m not doing this bullshit.

If you’ve watched Naruto Shippuden, you have come across this line said by Madara Uchiha.
”Wake up to reality”

And what our reality is. It’s that most of us are just following a crowd and what we are told by our elders. But let me ask you something. How much of it is actually true?

I’ll give you some examples:
1. You can have lots of fun after 10th - LIE
2. You can have lots of fun after 12th - LIE
3. Go to a good college, and you’ll have lots of fun - LIE
4. Get good marks and study well in college. You’ll get a good paying job - LIE
5. You landed a good paying job, now you can enjoy life - LIE
6. Life is not easy - TRUTH

So many lies, right, that people feed us? The only truth is that life is not easy.

When I realised that just doing college won’t work, I got serious and started doing my own thing. I don’t want to be a part of something that is not true at all. And I started ignoring college as well.

Currently, I’m doing BCA, and the only reason I go to college is for attendance.

But what about my education?

Well, what they teach us in college, I’ve already done that during my 11th and 12th in CS.

So now I need not even study, and as for my assignments, I never do those. Because I am not doing something bullshit just for the marks, or to show that I learned something in college, because that’s simply not true.

And also, my notebook is neither a compiler nor an IDE (Integrated Development Environment). Give me a PC, and I will code there and show you. Give me projects, and I’ll do those, but I am not writing code in my notebook for the marks. Give me something to build and challenge my brain to do new stuff in this field, and I’ll do it.

Marks simply cannot define my intelligence on this subject, hence, I am least bothered by my marks.

Honestly, I’m too bored of college. During the week, all I get to do is wake up, go to college, come back, and feel tired, which results in me barely being able to do the things that I need to do.

The only two days that I spend productively are Saturdays and Sundays. Those days, I wake up fresh, turn my setup on, freshen up, eat breakfast while watching something or playing games, and later I do my work along with managing my team.

And about my team, let me tell you about them.

First comes Anushka, she also writes blogs on Substack, and honestly, I get inspired by her blogs to write my own. I’ll mention her Substack at the end of the blog.
So, Anushka is the lead designer on my team, she’s really talented, she helps me with the team, and she is very creative. She is actually the one who rewrote the ending of our Game.

Then comes Bhutesh, well, no matter how little I say about this guy feels like more. Just kidding, this guy handles and manages the team and the legalities for our company. He’s a Cyber Security graduate, but he’s very ambitious about making something that he can call his own. And he is the guy who wrote the story of our game.

Let’s talk about Saugata, he is the sound artist on the team, he’s so talented. He composed the theme of our game, which we will soon use for marketing as well.

Now comes Devika, she is the marketing Lead on the team, she made a well structured plan for our marketing and also makes posts and stuff, and till she joined the team, we had no idea on how to do marketing properly, but after she joined, we got a structure, and I also learned a few things about social media.

Ayush and Sahil are also in the design team, and their work is fantastic. I love their designs, and before they joined, things were really slow because we had fewer people, but after they joined, we’ve seen real progress.

I am so proud to have this fabulous team, and honestly, I learn more from these people than from my degree.

We have talked about everything, so now let’s talk about my struggles and sacrifices.

I have sacrificed my time with my friends in college because there is just too much work. I have sacrificed my time with my family for the same reason. Thankfully, my parents understand my situation, and they just leave me be and do my work.

I sacrificed most of my me time, but the only thing that hurts me the most is that I sacrificed my very good and healthy relationship with the woman I loved, and that was because I got so busy that I was unable to give her any of my time, which resulted in her crying, which I could not bear to watch and my busy schedule was nowhere near the end, and I just could not bear the pain of making her cry. So I left her, and now she’s with another guy and happy.

So, that was pretty much it. That was all that I wanted to talk about today.

Thanks for reading my blog, I appreciate it.
